Durham-Duplex exhibited at the Health and Safety Event in the Birmingham NEC 8-10 April 2025.

The Health & Safety Event was the UK’s largest gathering of anyone responsible for running a safe and efficient workplace. As such Durham-Duplex’s range of safety hand knives including the OLFA range of safety knives from Japan and the Ibberson (Sheffield) range of utility pocket knives were popular items for H&S managers to source.

The Event had an engaging  line-up of seminars, practical workshops, and exhibitors, attracting thousands of workplace professionals from the industrial, commercial, and public sectors.  Martin Flanagan commented that “the event went with a bang.  from the moment it opened we had people on the stand looking for our solutions and OLFA product and it styed busy throughout teh 3 days.”

The Health and Safety Event was strategically co-located with 5 other events, including Fire Safety, Security and Workplace meaning that there was a wide selection of customers in the Halls and, as Paul Bottomley the UK Sales Director said, “H&S is a good show for us.  There are knowledgeable customers and attendees wanting to source the best products to make their workplace as safe as possible.  In this context the wide range of products we have to offer means that safe cutting – an essential in most factory spaces – is achievable as it is all about finding the safest way to do the job which is where we come in.  Our range of OLFA safety knives means that you can find a cutting solution that matches your need without having to compromise on the cut to comply with risk assessments.”

Proper maintenance and storage of Durham-Duplex blades is essential to ensure safety and maximise blade lifespan. Here are a few key tips:

Clean after use: Remove any debris, product residue, or moisture after each use. For industrial settings, follow the appropriate cleaning protocol depending on the material being cut (especially in food or medical industries).

Dry thoroughly: Ensure the blades are completely dry before storage to prevent corrosion or rusting—especially important for carbon steel blades.

Store safely: Use the original packaging or a designated dry, secure container. For safety knives, always retract the blade after use.

Regular inspection: Periodically check for signs of wear, dullness, or damage. Replace blades at the first signs of reduced performance to maintain precision and avoid machine stress or product damage.

Durham-Duplex also offers blade handling tools and dispensers to improve safe usage in industrial environments.
